One place for books.

Buy a book, read it, have it read aloud, and talk it over with friends — in one app instead of four. Mimir is free, with no subscription and no ads: you only pay for the books you buy, and they’re yours to keep.

Why Mimir

One book shouldn’t take four apps.

Today a book you love lives in one app to buy it, another to read it, a third to listen and a fourth to talk about it — and you often pay for it more than once. Mimir is all four, built as one thing.

  • Pay once per book

Mimir’s own editions come as paperback and ebook for one price. Publishers’ books cost less when you take print and ebook together.

  • Every book reads itself aloud

The voice runs on your phone, so narration costs nothing to make — and nothing to you. No audiobook to buy a second time.

  • Free, and staying that way

No subscription, no ads, no selling your data. Mimir earns money one way: when you buy a book.

Your library

Bring the books you already own.

Import DRM-free EPUB, MOBI, AZW and AZW3 files from Files or any app’s “Open in Mimir” — or start with one of thousands of Mimir Editions. Mimir finds the cover and keeps three shelves in order: reading, read, and next.

Listen

Every book you own, read aloud.

Tap “read to me” on any book — bought from Mimir or brought from elsewhere — and a natural voice reads it, free. The voices run on your phone: nothing is streamed, so it reads on a plane, in a tunnel, or with the radio off.

01

Word by word, wherever you tap.

The spoken word lights up and the rest of the page steps back, so your eyes never lose the voice. Tap any word to move the reading there — try it on the page.

02

A voice chosen for each book.

Thirty-seven voices across English (US and UK), Español, Français, Italiano and Português. Audition a few, pick one per book, and Mimir remembers it.

03

Turn any book into an audiobook.

Generate a chapter or the whole book ahead of time, right on the device, and watch each sentence as it’s made. Saved passages keep their audio too.

04

Pocket it and keep listening.

The narration carries on across chapters with the screen locked, and answers the lock-screen and headphone controls like any audiobook.

Loomings4%

Circumambulate the city of a dreamy Sabbath afternoon. Go from Corlears Hook to Coenties Slip, and from thence, by Whitehall, northward. What do you see? Posted like silent sentinels all around the town, stand thousands upon thousands of mortal men fixed in ocean reveries.

Read

Pages that feel like paper. A margin that thinks with you.

Real pages you turn with a fold under your finger — two at a time on iPad — in the book’s own typography. Everything you need sits one touch from the text.

01

A page that folds where you hold it.

The corner follows your finger and the page bends at the gutter on iPad. Tune the paper itself — grain, warmth and fade — or read on dark paper at night.

02

Passages that keep your voice.

Mark a line and write what you thought — or press the microphone and say it. Every passage opens back to the exact sentence, so years later you can still hear what it meant to you. Keep it private, or publish it to your profile.

03

Mark what matters.

Select a passage to save it in one of six colours, as a fill, an underline or a dash. Copy it, share it, or ask about it from the same small menu.

04

Look it up without losing your place.

Download a dictionary once and look words up offline in seven languages, or translate on device with Apple’s translation. Every word you look up collects in What you’ve learned, ready to practise.

05

A reading companion that won’t spoil it.

Ask who someone is, what a theme means, or what was happening in 1851. It knows where you are in the book and steers clear of what comes next. Bring your own key from Anthropic, OpenAI or Google — it stays on your device.

Reading together

A line worth sharing, shared beautifully.

Select a passage and Mimir sets it as a card, coloured from the book’s own cover. Send it to a friend or a club inside Mimir, post it to X, Threads, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn or TikTok, or hand it to any app that takes images. Every link opens on a page with the passage — and straight to the page in Mimir.

One tap inside Mimir. Three taps to anywhere else.

Mimir’s own community is the short way: no accounts to link, no tile to choose. For everywhere else, pick the app — Mimir makes the tile in that app’s shape, writes the caption, and opens it ready to post.

1tap  ·  On Mimir

Your club, a friend, your wall.

The passage lands where your people already are, without leaving the page. A club post stays sealed behind its spoiler checkpoint.

  • No app to switch to, no account to link
  • A friend gets the passage as a card in their messages
  • Club posts wait behind the spoiler checkpoint

3taps  ·  Share to

X, Threads, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok.

Opens X with your words and a card that leads back to the passage.

Your people

A social network with one subject.

An optional social side, built into the app. Follow readers whose shelves you trust, trade passages, and read together in book clubs that never spoil an ending.

  • Clubs at a shared pace

Checkpoints keep each part’s discussion sealed until you reach it. Mimir tells you if you’re on pace — or twelve percent behind.

  • Messages with passages

Send a quote card to a friend, or talk it through in your club’s own chat.

  • Follow by request

People choose who sees their shelves. Follow, wait for a yes, then read along.

  • Shelves that say something

A profile is what you read: books with progress, a top ten, ratings, quotes, and the notes you chose to publish.

The bookshop Opening soon

Buy the book once. Hold it and hear it.

Mimir has a bookshop built in. Mimir’s own editions of the classics come whole: the paperback ships to your door and the ebook is on your shelf the minute you order. Publishers’ books come in print, as an ebook, or both together for less. And whatever you buy, Mimir reads it aloud at no extra cost.

  • Start before it arrives

The ebook is ready to read, or to listen to, while the printed copy is in the post.

  • Paper and digital together

One price for both on Mimir Editions. On publishers’ books, both together cost less than apart.

  • Narration is never extra

Every book you buy, or bring, can be read aloud. No audiobook to buy again, no credits, no subscription.

  • Buy where you find it

Spot a book on a friend’s shelf or in your club’s next pick, add it to your cart, and it’s yours.

Mimir Editions

Thousands of classics at launch. More every 1 January.

Mimir Editions open with thousands of classics, and each New Year’s Day adds the year of books entering the US public domain — on 1 January 2027, books from 1931. Every one comes as the ebook straight away, a paperback printed when you order it, and narration tuned by hand so names and places are said right. No copy protection, ever.

And the quiet details

Made by someone who reads a lot.

What you’ve learned

Every word you look up is kept with the book it came from — then turned into a quick matching game.

Chapter notes

At the end of a chapter Mimir offers a line for what you’ll remember. It lives on a page after the chapter.

Mark your exact place

Leaving mid-page? Tap the word you stopped on and Mimir opens right there next time.

Your iCloud, not ours

Our promises

What we promise, and what we won’t do.

Mimir is being built as a cooperative: the readers, authors and narrators who use it will be its members, one vote each. These are rules they can hold us to.

  • You own what you buy — for good, in every format you bought.
  • Every book can be read aloud, free.
  • Your books, notes and narration stay on your device. Sync goes to your own iCloud, if you turn it on.
  • The community only sees what you choose to post.
  • No ads. Nothing in Mimir will try to sell you anything but a book.
  • No subscriptions.
  • No selling or sharing your data — and no analytics or ad SDKs in the app.
  • No streaks or “we miss you”. Any reminder comes from the book you’re reading.

Questions

Before you join

Is Mimir really free?

Yes. The app, narration and the community are free, with no subscription and no ads. Mimir makes money one way: when you buy a book in its bookshop.

What’s a Mimir Edition?

A classic Mimir publishes itself — thousands of them at launch. You get the ebook straight away and a paperback printed when you order it, for one price, with narration tuned for that text and no copy protection.

How do I get the beta?

Join the waitlist. We invite people through Apple’s TestFlight in small batches, and you’ll get one email with your invitation and a code for the community.

Can I bring books I already own?

Yes — any DRM-free EPUB, MOBI, AZW or AZW3 file, from public-domain libraries, publishers that sell without DRM, or your own conversions, and Mimir reads them aloud too. Books locked to another store’s app can’t be opened.

Does narration need the internet?

No. The voices ship inside the app and run on your iPhone or iPad, so narration works in airplane mode. The internet is only used for things you ask for, like syncing or the community.

Do I need an account?

Not to read, listen, highlight or take notes. Sign in with Apple if you want iCloud sync; the community needs an invite code while it’s in beta.

How does the reading companion work?

It’s optional and bring-your-own-key: add an Anthropic, OpenAI or Google key in Settings, and Mimir talks to that provider directly from your device. Nothing goes through a Mimir server.

Is it coming to Android or the desktop?

iPhone and iPad come first. Mimir is built to run on more platforms, and the waitlist is how you’ll hear about them.
